Feathermist's Den (Open!)

The lean she-cat nosed into the piles around her den, checking throughly for any bugs or fungus. She accidentally knocked over the stack of yarrow she had just put up and sighed, using her paw to sweep the contents back together again.

There seemed to be a lack of injured warriors, in these peaceful times it seemed like she was almost useless. Feathermist heaved a sigh, curling her tail around her feet. Her eyes gazed toward the roof of her den, knowing just beyond the rock there was her ancestors, including her mentor.

Her eyes swept over the neat - except for the yarrow - den. No signs from StarClan lately, not even a sign of her mentor's death. Could it be StarClan was angry.... or can they not see everything, maybe?

The she-cat padded out of the den. Blinking, she looked up at the sun and squinted. It was darker in the Medicine Den than she was used to, even with the Greenleaf sun.

And not even an apprentice to bring Fresh-kill, like when I was still Featherpaw....

Wolfheart padded into Feathermist's den, limping slightly, but also carrying a squirrel. When he saw the medicine cat, he padded over to her and dropped the squirrel at her paws, "Hello, Feathermist. I had hoped you might look at my paw, but I thought I might bring you something to eat in return." He sat and held his paw up slightly. It was nothing major, but the pad was cracked and stung like StarClan's fury. He had also managed to tear a claw while chasing the same squirrel he had brought for Feathermist and it was still bleeding.

The silvery she-cat blinked. "Oh yes! Come here, let's see.... It looks like you picked up some rocks in it." Her deep nearly white eyes surveyed the piles of herbs. She quickly bounded over to a pile of sharp-scented leaves. She picked one up in her jaws, and carried it over to the injured tom.

Feathermist gently pressed the leaf aginst his pad. "It should sting a little, but it'll fade. Hold it there," she ordered, then padded over to sorrel-like leaves, with a different scent.

Then the Medicine Cat returned to Wolfheart's side with the new plant. "That should stop it from getting an infection. Chew this up and put it on there while I go get some cobwebs."

The she-cat once again travled to her neatly organized stock. She grabbed a wad of the white and sticky material and padded awkwardly back with that paw help up. She sat by him, waiting until he was done putting on the Dock pulp.

After hunting for awhile, Blizzardpaw walked into Feathermist's den, hoping to talk to her again. He was surprised to see his mentor, Wolfheart, there.

" HI!!! " He meowed, already in hyper mode.

<sub>Feathermist looked back from where she was sitting, by Wolfheart. She meowed a greeting. "Come in Blizzardpaw! Just hold on white I fix up Wolfheart's pad, okay?" The she cat turned back to her job with Wolfheart.

She curled her tail around her paws, now in a better mood. Blizzardpaw always seemed to cheer her up. "Does it feel better now?" She asked Wolfheart. She still held the cobwebs up, waiting for his reply.</sub>

Wolfheart did as the medicine cat said, and when she brought out something else for it that would stop infection, he chewed it up reluctantly, knowing that most herbs didn't taste all that good. While she was gone fetching cobwebs, he put the pulp onto his paw. The coolness of it felt good after the stinging sensation the other herb had brought.

"Yeah, it feels much better now, thank you Feathermist," he lifted up his paw so she could put some cobweb on it, "I hope you enjoy that squirrel, that's how I tore my claw," he purred, slightly amused. Looking over at his apprentice, he meowed a greeting, "And what have you been up to?"

Blizzardpaw stared at the cobwebs in Feathermist's paws. "CAN I EAT THAT?!? " He asked, getting more hyper by the second. " PLEASE, CAN I HAVE THOSE BLACK DOTS AGAIN?? OOOOOOO, OR THOSE SOMETHING-BERRIES....... DEATH BERRIES!!! YEAH THAT'S IT!!!!! DEATH BERRIES!!!!"

<sub>Paws working swiftly, Feathermist applied the cobwebs around Wolfhearts pad. She gently guided him to place it on the ground, and observed his reaction. "If it's not sore anymore you can go. If it starts hurting again though, come see me, alright?"

Turning to the white tom she purred. "So, do you need anything Blizzardpaw?" The she-cat then padded over to the squirrel Wolfheart brought for her. "Oh, and thank you for the prey!" She buried her jaws into the flesh, and began to eat.

She raised her head again at Blizzardpaw's voice. She quickly wiped the blood off her muzzle with a paw. "Blizzardpaw, no! No more poppyseeds, and I told you - Deathberries are dangerous! Besides, I don't keep them."

Feathermist quickly dragged the rest of the squirrel with her, and sat in front of her herbs. "Calm down Blizzardpaw."</sub>

" ME WANT DEATH BERRIES!!!!! " He meowed loudly. He started bouncing off the walls, chanting 'death berries'. His heart was pounding quickly. His mind was blank.

<sub>StarClan help me..... She bounded after Blizzardpaw, trying to catch him. Unfortunately, he had more energy than she had expected. Panting, Feathermist gave up and watched him. She turned to Wolfheart, almost forgetting he was still there. "Oh! I'm sorry, I forgot - do you think you are ready to go back out?"

Well, she remembered asking but didn't listen to his answer if he had aknowledged it.</sub>

"Death Berries, Death berries, death berries death berries!!! " He yowled. He kept boucing off the walls. " YUMMY,YUMMY,YUMMY DEATH BERRIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" His eyes grew larger and his heart beated faster and faster.

"Oh, I'm fine," he spoke over Blizzardpaw's chanting. He let out a sigh and sat beside Feathermist in front of her herbs, so hopefully the young cat wouldn't get into them, "I don't think a couple poppy seeds to calm him down would be such a bad idea," he murmured.

"Blizzardpaw! You need to calm down or we can't go training. You cannot have death berries they'd kill you!" he called, hoping somehow to get through to the young cat. Shaking his head, he could only watch Blizzardpaw bouncing around, goind through a sort of crazy fit.

".....That apprentice has so much energy! He stole some before, but I can't believe he didn't sleep for a whole day! He even woke up before me." She sighed, and took out a poppy seed, than slid it across the den floor. Her muzzle dug back into the squirrel to finish her meal.

Blizzardpaw couldn't hear Feathermist or Wolfheart. After quite awhile, he calmed down. He sat before the older cats and licked his paw. " Can we go now? " He asked.

Wolfheart stood, testing his paw lightly and finding it was much better now. There was still a dull ache, but he could handle that without trouble, "Thanks again, Feathermist." He then turned to his apprentice, sighing softly, "Alright, let's go." Few of the other warriors in SageClan would have had the patience to deal with mentoring Blizzardpaw, but Wolfheart was a diligent cat, and he wouldn't give up on any apprentice. Losing your patience was a part of giving up, though reversable, "I'll see you later Feathermist, especially if my paw starts bothering me again." He padded toward the camp entrance, flicking his tail at his apprentice to follow.
