Being Bored

[Dragonstar]

Dragonstar trotted happily along the border between Juniperclan and Sageclan, stopping a few times to freshen up the border. He liked having a little time to himself. He looked over into his neighboring clan and studied the enviroment. He stopped and licked his paw. Then he kept trotting along the border, making sure everything was in line.

Mysterykit was wandering around again. He needed to be apprenticed soon, but in the meantime he was going to adventure around-maybe get himself into trouble. Not that he cared at the moment. He looked around, and saw his leader along the border. OH, crap, he thought. I'm done for.

He looked around, looking for a place to sprint without being noticed. There wasn't any, but it was too late. He had stepped on a twig-making a huge snapping noise. He hissed, letting it out. He knew he was caught now, for sure. Unless by some miracle his own leader was going deaf.

Dragonstar sensed another cat nearby, but guessed it was another patrol. But when he heard a twig snap and a loud hissing noise, he knew he was getting stalked or something. He faced the direction of the noise and saw Mysterykit.

" What are you doing here? " He asked, putting a happy face on, " You should be in the Nursery. "

Mysterykit scowled, "You're kidding me! That stupid ole' boring place? There is nothing to do, nothing to explore. It's a prison!" Mysterykit hated the Nursery-it was crowded and lonesome. What exactly were you supposed to do?

He was still in the same place, the snapped twig underneath his paw. He glared at it and went over to his leader. He sat down a ways, and asked in a pleading voice, "Please can I join you? I promise I won't bug you or really get in the way!" He would grovel if he had to. He couldn't stand being cooped up anymore. "Please?!"

Dragonstar thought a moment and sighed, " Okay, you should be an apprentice soon anyways. " He thought about what he should teach him first: the borders or scents.

"Okay, look over there, " He said and pointed his tail towards Sageclan, " Over there is Sageclan. "

Mysterykits' eyes were blank but his spirits rejoiced. YES!!! he thought with leaping enthusiasm. He listened attentively, and commented, "Hrm. They smell a lot different than us. Is that because they live somewhere else, or just do things differently?"

He decided he should pay attention. He would have to know and learn all of this if he were to be a good warrior, which we had to be. It was his destiny, his only way to live through life.

[Dragonstar]

" I'm guessing it's because they live in a different place, " Dragonstar answered, " But there are a number of other theories. " He slowly padded along the border, hoping Mysterkit will follow and not wander off. He heard a loud rustling noise and instantly smelled mouse.

He instinctly dropped into a hunting crouch. He silently pulled himself toward the mouse that was nibbling a seed. Once he was close enough, he jumped and killed the mouse with a sharp bite to the neck. He took his catch and buried it. " That's how you catch a mouse, " He meowed, licking his muzzle, " But you'll learn all the details after your ceremony. "

Mysterykit nodded, listening intently on his leader. When he saw his leader catch the mouse, his blank eyes widened and he yelped in triumph, "WOW! That is awesome! I can't wait to do that..." he let his mind wander on the thought.

Coming from behind his leader he decided to walk next to him. He went over on his side, making sure it was thier territory by the smell. He liked learning about the border, and some history, maybe. "So is Sageclan something to worry about, or do they not cause much of a threat?" he inquired. He was only a kit and he was learning apprentice things! Though he would be an apprentice fairly soon.

Then another question hit him. "When could be my ceremony? Who would be my mentor?" Though he knew it he would know soon enough his patience was failing him. Dreaming about learning things to become a warrior was like magic. That was all he wanted in life; to become a good warrior, to make his clan proud.

Worry struck him then like a cry from a mouse. "What if no one wants to teach me? What if...I'm not a good apprentice? What if I can't do the things you can, Dragonstar!?!" his voice got softer and softer as he went, just because of his worry was overpowering him.

[Dragonstar]

" Well, every clan has their own strength and weaknesses, " Dragonstar answered the kit, " We could have your ceremony when we get back to camp, and Sundance would be a good mentor for you. " He padded along, checking the borders. His smile faded away as he heard Mysterkit worrying.

" You'll be a great apprentice, " Dragonstar assured him, " No cat is perfect. Even when I was an apprentice, I never always obeyed, but I tried my best. An that's what counts. " He reminisced on the past for awhile and looked down upon Mysterkit.

Limestone moved swiftly, her senses fixed on a vole. She knew it was near the border, but that just meant she had to catch it before it went across.

The muscular she-cat struck out a paw, only managing to knock the vole over. She clawed at it with her other paw, but only battered again, then she stretched out her neck as far as she could and swiftly took a chomp to it's neck.

She hissed in frustration and brought over two squirrels to join it and was about to cover it in earth to collect later. After all, hunting wasn't her strong point. Until she saw her leader.

"Dragonstar!" She yowled, picked up the prey and padded over to him. She was surprised to see Mysterykit also out. I hope he doesn't get scolded, he's usually such a nice kit.

[Dragonstar]

" Oh, hello, Limestone, " Dragonstar greeted, " Isn't it true that there is no such thing as a perfect apprentice? " He hoped Limestone would say 'no'. He really needed to get Mysterkit's spirits up.

[CATxOFxICE]

Limestone paused and set down the prey in her jaws. "I wouldn't know... my last apprentice didn't listen to me and died...." She sighed.

"But, if there was some young cat who would learn that the Warriors know what their talking about, not the older apprentices, we might have a close-to-perfect apprentice. All cats know that not even a warrior is perfect!" She flexed her claws and grinned. "Heh, not even leaders are perfect! My mentor became leader and gave me the name 'Stonebelly' can you imagine? I'd have died if not for Dragonstar."

She picked up the prey again, and with a wave of her tail bounded off back to JuniperClan's camp.

Mysterykit thingyed his head as he watched her leave. What a strange cat... he thought. He shrugged, and finally smiled. "HOW bad were you when you were an apprentice?" he asked. He liked this. Talking to his leader, he felt honored in his presence.

He couldn't help but feel the want for Dragonstar to be his mentor. He knew it sounded stupid and selfish, but he had a feeling he would do good. But thinking of Dragonstars' busy day he decided it was for the best. Though he would love it, he knew that Dragonstar was too busy for an annoying apprentice.

Dragonstar really didn't want to answer the question. But he decided to anyways. " I spent a lot of my apprenticeship moping around. " He sighed.

" One time, on m first day as an apprentice, my mentor took me on a tour of all the boundaries.I wanted to show him that I could do anything. So I chased a squirrel deep into Hollyclan territory. I was lucky I wasn't caught. " He chuckled.

Mysterykit laughed. "Oops." He couldn't beleive his own leader would do that. "So you were a real bundle of joy." he added, laughing.
