Clan Meeting 5.29.08

[Larien Melwasúl]

Brambleheart was just finishing off some fresh-kill when she heard Winterstar call the clan for a meeting. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw cats gathering under the HighRock. She sighed. She would have liked to have finished her vole. She glanced at the HighRock, shrugged, and quickly gulped down the last pieces of her vole. A little late, she met under the HighRock.


Winterstar had indead called a clan meeting. Dovekit, one of the clans few kits, was becoming an apprentice. He watched silently, yet quite proudly, as his clan gathered beneath him. They were few in numbers, but what they lacked, they made up in loyalty to one another.

Dovekit sat silently, patiently, only the nervous twitch of her tail gave away her excitement. Her wide green eyes gazed expectanly up at her leader, waiting to be named and given a mentor. She looked around at the Clan briefly, wondering what cat it would be, what cat would train her for her future? She shuffled her paws slightly, feeling nervous about having to fight.... She was excited about learning how to hunt, but she dreaded battle and hoped it was a very long ways away. Trying to steady herself, she sat a little straighter and gave her chest a couple licks.

Winterstar flicked his tail, quieting any cats that might be talking with each other. "Today, a kit will become an apprentice." Winterstar said in a booming voice. This was one of the few times he ever talked loudly. "Dovekit!" he yowled. He paused waiting for the young she-cat to step forward. "From this day forth, until she has earned her warrior name, Dovekit will be known as Dovepaw!" He paused to let this sink in.

"Brambleheart!" he called upon the young warrior, who was surprised of the calling. "I believe it is time for you to have your first apprentice. Use your patience and mildness to teach Dovepaw to become the warrior her clan expects her to be. Teach her well."

Brambleheart's eyes were round as the moon when Winterstar said that she would mentor Dovepaw. She was honored. She was still a young warrior, but not too young to not have an apprentice.

"I will teach her well, Winterstar" she replied to his comment. She walked up to the young apprentice, no her apprentice, to touch noses with her.

As Dovekit stepped forward, she felt her heart flutter in her chest nd tried her best to stand before the Clan without trembling, both from excitement and anxiety. Dovepaw, she thought, and wondered briefly what name she would repeat in her mind when she became a warrior, if she became a warrior.... A small chill went down her spine, oh how she was dreading fighting.... Then Winterstar addressed another cat, though she had missed the name at first, being too caught up in her fear of the future. Her mentor was padding up to her soon, however, and she recalled the name her leader had called out, Brambleheart. She touched noses lightly with the warrior, her excitement at finally becoming an apprenice and being able to leave camp pushing away her fear, this was the beginning. "What do we do first?" she asked quietly.

Winterstar jumped down from his perch and called to some of his warriors {random people}.

Brambleheart gazed warmly at her new apprentice. She was so excited! She felt chills creeping up her legs and spine. "Well." she answered her quiet apprentice. "What do you think an apprentice first needs to do?"

[Ravenstar]

Dovepaw looked up at Brambleheart thoughtfully for a moment. Her eyes narrowed slightly and her tail twitched to show that she was thinking about the question her mentor had posed, "Umm... maybe, apprentices should learn about their Clan's territory... so that they know what they're protevting... and where's best to hunt... and... stuff." She blinked her pretty green eyes, not able to think of anything else. She had thought hard about it, and had given the best answer she could come up with. She hoped it was right.

Brambleheart watched her new apprentice ponder the question. As she answered, Brambleheart tipped her head sideways, thinking also. She paused for a second, coming up with an answer that wouldn't make her sound stupid, "Since you seem like you know what you're doing, why don't you lead me around the territory and point out places you would think would be good place to hunt. No pressure, of course." And she ment it. She wanted her apprentice to explore the grassland, yet think, no stratigize, the places for hunting and patroling. She knew that Dovepaw wouldn't know everything. The point was to have Dovepaw think and figure things out, and if she forgot something or got something wrong, Brambleheart would give her a paw.

A small thrill of anxiety and excitement went through her at her mentor's request, and she nodded, "I'll try...." She turned toward the camp entrance hesitantly, wondering if she should lead the way. But, then, Brambleheart had told her to lead her around the territory. Taking a few nervous step forward, she slowly grew in confidence and finally padded out of camp. For a minute she stood, looking around, not sure which way to go.

"What's that way?" She asked, looking left. She wanted to know if there were any special places that way for the Clan, training places or just places the Clan deemed significant enough to actually name. Maybe that would give her a clue as to where good hunting places would be.

Brambleheart purred in amusement. Dovepaw was so confident for a second there...and then...heh. She sighed. This was going to be fun. "We warriors have certian paths that we travel on, for patroling and such. Since these are traveled on often, how do you think you could locate one?"

[Ravenstar]

"Oh...," she looked around again, "Scent trails! I followed my mother's scent once when I was younger because...," thought she stopped talking, thinking that Brambleheart probably didn't care about her little adventure as a kit. Turning back to the land before her, she lowered her head to the ground and scented the familiar scent of her Clan, the seperate scents of many cats, some new, some long stale and barely clinging to the earth at her paws.

She padded forward, following the scents that led left. It got easier the farther they got from camp and finally she lifted her head and opened her mouth slightly to better draw in the scents. This was pretty easy actually! She veered off the main trail and onto another one, just curious now about exploring the territory. She almost forgot about Brambleheart's telling her to point out places she thought would be good to hunt.

"What's this place?" She asked as they came to a rocky place with little grass. She padded forward and saw there was a cavern below, she scented fresh water coming from down there, but was unsure about the whole place.

Aspenpaw smiled at the thought of having another apprentice in the den. He had always liked Dovepaw, but now he was more happy to be able to play fight with him. He seemed like a nice cat. And it wasn't long ago that he came into the Clan as a runaway kittypet. He still suffered that burden and still suffered from the name calling. But he didn't care. He was going to be the best leader when he got older that the forest had ever seen!
